Gun Dog Training

Our program is built on our mission statement of developing a working relationship between dog and handler. There are many good training programs and many good trainers, however for a program to be great it has to be tailor fit to each and every dog’s personality. Every dog learns in a different way and at a different rate. To ensure the highest level of success in our program we think outside of the box and develop a training model that will work for your dog.

Our program was designed off of the methods used in the UK with an American twist. The methods used in our facility are about 85 % positive teaching and 15 % pressure response. Dogs learn from positive teaching very well however they also need to understand the leadership of the pack environment. Each of the dogs that are taken through our program are brought through fundamentals, such as obedience, force fetch, double t drills, pattern blinds and the swim by. If you prefer that one of these methods not be used in your individual plan for your retriever, we will tailor fit your lesson plan accordingly. Once the fundamentals are taught, we move on to transition training. Transition training is one of the most important parts of the retriever training process, second only to fundamentals. Once a dog has a firm grasp of the fundamental concepts of training we have a tool box to utilize in our transition training

Transition training is process of teaching your retriever how to hunt. This may seem like a natural thing that the dog should already know, but it’s not always that easy. We have to teach your dog how to apply all the fundamentals that he or she learned to the real world application of the actual hunt. This process is also custom fit to each and every handler/dog team. Not everyone hunts the same, so why should all dogs be trained to fit one mold.

We strive to create long lasting partnerships for many years to come. Each of our retrievers that come out of our program are given every opportunity to be as successful as they can be in the home and the field. Most importantly we strive to educate the handler on how to communicate with their dog and work as one unit.
